February Message: Month Of Kingdom Restoration
The kingdom of God is not meat and drink but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Rom. 14:17
In this year of New Beginnings, the key to our progressive enlargement is recommitment to the restoration of the Lord’s kingdom.
Kings fight battles and rule their conquered domains (or king-dom). The Lord’s primary business when he was on earth was to establish His Father’s kingdom. It was His first sermon (Mk. 1:14–15, Lk. 4:18), the first petition in the prayer He taught His disciples (Mt. 6:9–10). He assured them that no matter how small they are at the beginning the Father would deliver to them the kingdoms of this world (Lk. 12:31). This prophecy has come to pass today. His movement is the largest and most impactive on planet earth. Indeed, His claim of being a king was the main reason the Roman empire executed Him (Jn. 18:37).
Similarly, secular events from historical times todate is also about kingdoms. Kingdoms that pay attention to knowledge and its application are stronger and subjugate others that don’t. Hence, all nations seek for the brightest and best to back up those who hold ultimate authority. All kings therefore seek for those who are diligent and excellent in their callings so they can serve them irrespective of their nationality, color, gender or status. It’s also the reason many advanced and wise nations pour huge proportion of their national budgets (60% and above) into education for all and quality education for the exceptional ones. The latter help to apply knowledge in industry, commerce and governance (Pro. 29:22, Dan. 6:3).
Three major things happen when we commit to the Lord’s kingdom.
First, we discover who we are in that kingdom. We are called to be kings and priests, with giftings to rule the secular and spiritual realms (Rev. 5:9–10). But we owe our authority and sole allegiance to the King of kings. We not only make Him our Savior, Helper and Deliverer, but also our Lord. His word must be obeyed over and above all and sundry.
Second, we think as He thinks. We think strategically as He does and this guides our speech. When darkness, confusion, emptiness covered our world He spoke through His word and His Spirit light, order, fullness and beauty into existence (Gen. 1:2). As we submit our spirits to His own Spirit, He rules our souls — seat of feeling, thought and will power — and bodies. This releases to us tremendous spiritual power (1 Cor. 4:20). This power grows as we obey His word and ways (Jn. 1:11–12, Acts 1:8, 5:32).
Finally, we engage the strategies He has won for us on the Cross. These strategies have proven their worth over the years. Unfortunately, it is the enemies of the cross that now use elements of these strategies to score massive victories against our Lord’s kingdom. By contrast, the early believers had great understanding of the kingdom and the potency of its strategies.
For instance, in 1799, some Evangelical Anglicans founded the Church Mission Society (CMS) organization, dedicated to global evangelism and social transformation especially in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. They raised substantial funds from themselves and their colleagues who were successful business people within and outside their denomination, the Anglican church. They then recruited young missionaries, some of the best after graduation especially Oxford and Cambridge, who went on to establish missions using education and health improvement as their main entry points strategy. The indigenous population flocked to these institutions that provided quality services at least cost. This has been one of the best examples of success in the history of Christian missions.
In particular, they understood that kingdoms of light and darkness are in eternal competition. In these last days, and these are last days indeed, we need such strategic thinking. The Lord gave us seven key strategies to be used to grow His kingdom (Rev. 5:12): Governance, Economy, Education, Media, Entertainment, Family and Religion.
While the enemies of the gospel are using aspects of these strategies to cause havoc to the lord’s kingdom, many of us who claim to belong to the Lord are preoccupied with seeking what we can obtain from the Lord for our own ever growing pleasures; never how we can promote and sustain the Lord’s kingdom with what He already gave us (Deut. 8:18, Mk. 8:36). Yet our grand-father in the faith, Abraham was blessed because he was ready to sacrifice even His only son to align with His Lord’s kingdom agenda. It was only a test. He passed and received eternal blessings that are still resonating till today.
May you pass your own test by asking:
What am I ready to give to my Lord to extend His kingdom in this world?
Please recommit to His kingdom values of righteousness (justice, mercy, humility, faithfulness), peace, and joy in this new month.
Welcome to the month of Kingdom Restoration.
